VR Installation / A Raft To Romancy

Lubna Behey x Manoah Camporini

An immersive sculptural device in the form of a seat connected to a VR headset, this original creation is a sensitive and physical breach in the psyche of lubna, a French white SW from genZ. Several 3D “scenes” allow us to grasp fragments of her bodily and psychic relationship to the practice of sex work, in a process of re-enactment that enables her to bear witness to a previously unpronounceable experience.

Made in collaboration with a team of sex workers, OnlyBans is a game critically examining digital surveillance, censorship, and discrimination faced by sex workers. It offers a speculative vision of how marginalized communities can protest unjust policies to create a free Internet.

One of the main problems faced by sex workers is the difficulty of accessing safe spaces in which to work, and under suitable conditions. As a result, running their own little whorehouse is a common dream in the sex worker community. Concretely, what are the researches and experimentations on this topic?

Two of HXSSY’s co-founders, sex worker Mercy St. J and architect Anna Torres, will come together to discuss and highlight the historical and current struggle in De Wallen (Amsterdam) and the importance of sex worker self-made spaces in Red Light Districts. Laura Miotti & Melike Hocaoglu from the ZHAW Social Work department will present their research project that aims at investigating and improving the living and working conditions of sex workers in the city of Zurich. The conversation will be hosted by UTSOPI, that will present the in process participatory research about self managed sex work places.

And what does it mean to be a SW activist?”
